John and the Team at Insulation Scotland (Edinburgh) Limited were fantastic. Thorough but quick survey and consultation followed by a quotation that arrived when promised and at a competitive price. We chose them because of John's friendly demeanor. A team of 3 blitzed a reasonably big job in less than a day. Some of the walls in attic got their first insulation (you can see in the before and after images) and the flooring was re-laid and added to in some places, and completely replaced in others. All waste was bagged up and taken away. Everything was wiped down, hoovered and generally spick and span. We couldn't be happier, and would confidently recommend John and his team.

Edit 3/3/26: the owner came back to me eventually and said he would pay for the damage. Once I sent the invoice of the plumber he promptly paid. All solved. Great communication. They sent someone in the morning to quote for a loft insulation job. Told him to be careful in the attic as we have the water heating manifold with pipes. Did the survei in 20 minutes. Come the evening the boiler had lost pressure, low and behold he had knocked a pipe from the manifold and it is actively leaking. Will not return my calls.

Insulation Grants Scotland 2026

There are various different home insulation grants available in Scotland during 2026, this blog is going to breakdown all of the main government schemes and the types of insulation our partner installers can install for you as TrustMark approved companies.

The three government grants for home insulation in Scotland with the most funding during 2026 are the Eco 4 Scheme, The Great British Insulation Scheme and Home Energy Scotland’s “Warmer Homes Scotland” programme.

You will likely have heard of the Home Energy Scotland grant and perhaps saw their advertising campaign on television.

As for the Eco 4 Scheme, this is the largest government funded scheme with the goal of tackling fuel poverty and over £4 billion of funding available.

The Great British Insulation Scheme is the largest government grant providing funding specifically for home insulation, with over £1 billion of funding being allocated to properly insulate homes in the UK.

Below we have broken down each government scheme in more detail and the measures of insulation grants available including loft insulation grants, cavity wall insulation grants, internal wall insulation grants and external wall insulation grants.

Home Energy Scotland Insulation Grant 2026

In 2026, Home Energy Scotland provides funding of £10,000 or more to help you with home improvements that make your home more energy efficient via their Warmer Homes Scotland grants. Home insulation leads the way for this, with grants being awarded for the likes loft insulation and cavity wall insulation, often alongside other central heating and renewables.

Home Energy Scotland are an advisory service, there to help with free advice and support on how to make your home warmer and reduce energy bills. Based on your properties home reports and energy performance certificate (EPC rating) they will advise on whether you qualify for a grant and which type measure is top priority to improve your homes EPC rating.

Home Energy Scotland are managed by the Energy Savings Trust and funded by the Scottish Government as part of the Net Zero Campaign.

Grants are available for everyone via Home Energy Scotland, with criteria being that you are on council tax bands A to F and your homes EPC rating is D or below.

If you are on some kind of income related benefits, you can also qualify for 100% funded free home insulation. This is managed by and installed by Warmworks who like Home Energy Scotland, are also based in Edinburgh.

You can check if you eligible for an insulation grant from Home Energy Scotland by calling them to complete a home energy check report or completing a self assessment online.

Eco 4 Scheme Insulation Grants Scotland 2026

The UK governments Eco 4 Scheme is the largest of its kind, aimed at targeting fuel poverty throughout the country. There is a total of over £4 billion of funding available a large percentage of which going towards home insulation.

Insulation grants awarded in Scotland during 2026 via the Eco 4 Scheme generally consist of another measure such as a new boiler, central heating system including air source heat pumps and other renewables such as solar panels.

The Eco 4 Scheme is split between the standard grants available to people receiving income related benefits and the Eco 4 Flex which opens up funding to people who are employed on lower incomes. If you earn less than £31,000 per year, the Eco 4 flex scheme can provide free or part funded home insulation.

Just like Home Energy Scotland, the Eco 4 Scheme covers all types of insulation measures with loft insulation and cavity wall insulation being the two leading ones.

Generally speaking the Eco 4 Scheme provides grants for 100% free home insulation or at the very least heavily subsidised, so that you are only paying for a small percentage of the total cost.

Loft Insulation Grants Scotland 2026

Loft insulation grants in Scotland provide free or part funded loft insulation for homes throughout the country. Listed below are some of the benefits of having loft insulation installed:

Loft insulation is one of the leading measures for improving your home EPC rating.

Loft insulation reduces heat loss, helping to keep your home warmer in the winter and cooler in the summer. This improves overall energy efficiency.

By retaining heat more effectively, loft insulation can significantly lower your heating and cooling bills, leading to substantial cost savings over time.

Improved energy efficiency reduces the amount of energy required to heat or cool your home, which in turn lowers your carbon footprint and helps in the fight against climate change.

Insulating your loft helps maintain a consistent indoor temperature, enhancing comfort levels throughout your home by preventing drafts and cold spots.

Loft insulation can also act as a sound barrier, reducing external noise pollution and creating a quieter living environment.

Insulating your loft can help reduce condensation, which can prevent dampness and mold growth, protecting your home’s structure and improving indoor air quality.

Quality insulation materials have a long lifespan, often lasting for decades without needing replacement, making it a worthwhile long-term investment.

Mineral Wool (Glass Wool or Rock Wool)

Glass Wool:
Made from recycled glass, it is lightweight, easy to handle, and has good thermal and acoustic insulation properties.

Rock Wool:
Made from volcanic rock, it offers excellent fire resistance and sound insulation along with thermal insulation.

Sheep’s Wool

Natural and sustainable, sheep’s wool is highly effective at regulating temperature and humidity. It is also biodegradable and has good soundproofing qualities.

Rigid Foam Boards (PIR boards)

PIR (Polyisocyanurate) and PUR (Polyurethane):
These boards offer high insulation value and are moisture-resistant, making them suitable for loft spaces.

XPS (Extruded Polystyrene) and EPS (Expanded Polystyrene):
These are lightweight and offer good insulation properties, though they are less effective than PIR and PUR.

Multifoil Insulation

Multifoil consists of multiple layers of reflective foil and insulating materials. It is thin, lightweight, and reflects radiant heat, making it a good option for additional insulation or in spaces with limited headroom.

Natural Fibre Insulation (Hemp, Cotton, Wood Fibre)

These materials are sustainable and environmentally friendly. They provide good thermal and acoustic insulation and are often treated to be fire-resistant and prevent pests.

Each of these materials has its own advantages and is suited for different types of lofts and insulation needs. The choice of material will depend on factors such as budget, environmental impact, ease of installation, and specific insulation requirements.

Cavity Wall Insulation Grants Scotland 2026

Cavity wall insulation grants in Scotland provide free or part funded cavity wall insulation for homes throughout the country. Cavity wall has been shown to improve heat retention by up to 33%, see more of the benefits you can expect from cavity wall insulation on the table below:

Like loft insulation, cavity wall is one of the leading measures for improving your homes EPC rating.

Filling the gap between the inner and outer walls helps reduce heat loss, leading to more efficient heating and cooling of your home.

Improved energy efficiency can significantly lower your heating and cooling bills, resulting in long-term cost savings.

Insulating cavity walls helps maintain a consistent indoor temperature, making your home more comfortable by eliminating cold spots and drafts.

By reducing the amount of energy needed to heat or cool your home, cavity wall insulation helps lower your carbon footprint, contributing to environmental conservation.

Insulating cavity walls can also reduce the transmission of external noise, creating a quieter indoor environment.

Proper insulation can help prevent condensation within the walls, which reduces the risk of dampness, mould, and mildew, protecting both your health and the structural integrity of your home.

Energy-efficient homes are more attractive to buyers, and cavity wall insulation can enhance the value of your property by improving its energy performance rating.

The process of installing cavity wall insulation is typically quick and non-intrusive, often completed in a few hours without causing significant disruption to your home.

External Wall Insulation Grants Scotland 2026

External wall insulation grants in Scotland can provide a grant up to £7,500, a further £2,500 interest free loan or 75% towards the total cost for external wall insulation, which can be quite expensive given new roughcast or render also needs to be installed. Here are some of the benefits you can expect from external wall insulation:

Just like loft and cavity wall insulation, external wall insulation will improve your homes EPC rating.

By adding an insulating layer to the outside of your walls, you reduce heat loss in the winter and heat gain in the summer, leading to a more energy-efficient home.

Enhanced energy efficiency can result in significant savings on heating and cooling bills over time.

External wall insulation helps maintain a consistent indoor temperature, making your home more comfortable by eliminating cold spots and drafts.

The external cladding used in insulation systems can improve the aesthetic appearance of your home, giving it a fresh and updated look.

Adding insulation to the external walls can reduce the amount of noise entering your home, providing a quieter living environment.

External wall insulation protects the building’s exterior from weather damage, reducing wear and tear on the walls and potentially extending the life of the building.

Homes with good insulation are more attractive to buyers. External wall insulation can significantly improve your property’s energy performance rating and overall market value.

Insulating the external walls helps prevent condensation on internal walls, which reduces the risk of mold growth and dampness, improving indoor air quality and health.

By reducing energy consumption, external wall insulation helps lower your carbon footprint, contributing to environmental conservation efforts.

External wall insulation can be applied to a variety of building types and surfaces, making it a flexible solution for improving thermal performance.

Since the work is done on the outside of the building, there is minimal disruption to the household during installation compared to internal insulation methods.
