Great communication and prompt service. Very reasonable, competitive price for our loft insulation and good tidy job completed with no fuss. Not even scared of the numerous spiders and cobwebs! Recommend.Posted on Trustindex![]()

John and the Team at Insulation Scotland (Edinburgh) Limited were fantastic. Thorough but quick survey and consultation followed by a quotation that arrived when promised and at a competitive price. We chose them because of John's friendly demeanor. A team of 3 blitzed a reasonably big job in less than a day. Some of the walls in attic got their first insulation (you can see in the before and after images) and the flooring was re-laid and added to in some places, and completely replaced in others. All waste was bagged up and taken away. Everything was wiped down, hoovered and generally spick and span. We couldn't be happier, and would confidently recommend John and his team.Posted on Trustindex![]()

Edit 3/3/26: the owner came back to me eventually and said he would pay for the damage. Once I sent the invoice of the plumber he promptly paid. All solved. Great communication. They sent someone in the morning to quote for a loft insulation job. Told him to be careful in the attic as we have the water heating manifold with pipes. Did the survei in 20 minutes. Come the evening the boiler had lost pressure, low and behold he had knocked a pipe from the manifold and it is actively leaking. Will not return my calls.Posted on Trustindex![]()

Fantastic experience all round. John was very kind and friendly. Communication was prompt and easy. He explained how to apply for a grant from the govt. When it didnt work out for us he even kindly gave us a huge discount! Work was done very quick (approx an hour for us) and cleaned up after themselves leaving the house spotless. This was a completely stress free experience. We definitely recommend insulation scotia !Posted on Trustindex![]()

Sheep wool insulation is a natural, sustainable, and eco-friendly premium insulation material made from the wool of sheep. It is used to insulate homes in Scotland, helping to maintain a comfortable indoor temperature by reducing heat loss in the winter and heat gain in the summer.
Sheeps wool insulation is a premium home insulation product that is especially ideal for homes in Northern Scotland such as Inverness, Highland, Moray and Caithness.
All of the sheeps wool insulation our partner installers install is ThermaFleece sheeps wool, from their wide range of products including CosyWool, CosyWool Slab and UltraWool.
On this page you will find out more about sheeps wool insulation including the different types you can choose from the benefits of each one.
Sheep wool insulation works effectively by utilising the natural properties of sheeps wool fibres to improve your homes temperature, control moisture, providing maximum heat retention. Its ability to manage moisture and maintain insulation performance over time, coupled with its environmental benefits, makes it a highly effective and sustainable choice for home insulation.
Sheeps wool insulation weighs more than other types of home insulation, providing extra thickness and additional layers of insulation, resulting in maximum heat retention. Sheeps wool fibers are naturally crimped, which creates a network of tiny air pockets within the material. These air pockets trap air, which acts as a barrier to heat flow. This trapped air significantly reduces heat transfer, helping to keep buildings warm in the winter and cool in the summer.
Sheep’s wool insulation is easy to install, in most cases you just have to lay on top of the surface you are trying to insulate. There are different methods for installing sheep’s wool insulation depending on which type is being fitted.
Batts and Rolls:
Sheep’s wool insulation is typically available in batts or rolls, which can be easily cut to size and fitted between wall studs, rafters, or joists.
Loose-Fill:
It can also be installed as loose-fill insulation, which is blown into cavities, making it ideal for retrofitting existing buildings or filling irregular spaces.
Sheeps wool insulation offers a range of benefits that make it an attractive choice for homes in Scotland. Here are the key benefits of installing sheeps wool insulation:
Energy Efficiency: Sheep wool’s natural crimped fibres create air pockets that trap air, providing excellent thermal insulation. This helps maintain a stable indoor temperature, reducing the need for heating in the winter and cooling in the summer, which can lower energy bills.
Hygroscopic Properties: Sheeps wool can absorb up to 30% of its weight in moisture without feeling wet, helping to regulate humidity levels inside a building. This prevents condensation and reduces the risk of mould and mildew, contributing to a healthier indoor environment.
Renewable Resource: Sheeps wool is a natural, renewable resource, as sheep are sheared annually, and their wool regrows. Using wool insulation reduces the reliance on synthetic, non-renewable materials, supporting sustainable practices.
Biodegradable: At the end of its life, sheep wool insulation is fully biodegradable, minimising environmental impact compared to synthetic alternatives.
Non-Toxic: Sheep wool is a natural material that does not contain harmful chemicals or volatile organic compounds (VOCs). This makes it a safer choice for indoor air quality and overall health, especially for those with allergies or sensitivities.
Air Purification: Wool fibers can absorb and neutralise harmful chemicals such as formaldehyde, nitrogen oxides, and sulfur dioxide, helping to purify indoor air.
Noise Reduction: The dense structure of wool fibres makes it an effective sound insulator, absorbing and dampening sound waves. This makes sheep wool insulation ideal for reducing noise from outside or between rooms.
Resilience: Wool is naturally resilient and can retain its shape and effectiveness over time without settling or compacting, unlike some other insulation materials. This ensures long-term performance and durability.
Pest Resistance: Sheep wool is naturally resistant to pests, such as insects and rodents, particularly when treated with non-toxic agents. This reduces the need for additional pest control measures.
Flexible and Safe to Handle: Sheep wool insulation is easy to cut and fit into place, making it suitable for various applications, including walls, roofs, and floors. Unlike fiberglass insulation, it does not cause skin irritation, making it safer and more comfortable to work with.
Suitable for Various Applications: Sheeps wool insulation can be used in different parts of a building, including walls, roofs, lofts, and floors. It can be installed as batts, rolls, or loose-fill, making it adaptable to various construction and renovation projects.
Low Carbon Footprint: The production and processing of sheep wool insulation have a relatively low carbon footprint, especially compared to synthetic insulation materials. Using wool insulation supports sustainable agriculture and helps reduce the overall environmental impact of building construction.

Thermafleece CosyWool Roll, crafted from British sheep’s wool, is an ideal insulation solution for floors and lofts. Its design makes it easy to install between and over joists, providing both thermal and acoustic benefits.
Key Features:
Durability and Performance:
Made with a wool rich blend of fibres, the insulation is thermally bonded to ensure maximum durability and prevent slumping over time. A small percentage of recycled polyester fibres is added to enhance resource efficiency and maintain exceptional breathability.
Natural Benefits of Wool:
Wool is a remarkable natural fibre that not only insulates but also improves indoor air quality. As sheep’s fleece grows, it absorbs carbon dioxide from the atmosphere. When used as insulation, wool binds and neutralises harmful airborne chemicals, contributing to a healthier indoor environment.
