John and Paul were brilliant getting the insulation in. Installation and clean up all done in half a day (less, even) and the Knauf wool has made a notable improvement on the cold spots I had under the eves. I also found John to be particularly reassuring on the initial quote and measurement; I mentioned having condensation issues and so he did an inspection of the timbers while measuring the loft space, which other quoters had not bothered to look at. I felt that John actually listened to my concerns and the whole reason I was having the insulation looked at. The whole process was painless and I would absolutely recommend them.

What is Recycled Plastic Insulation?

Recycled plastic insulation is a type of insulation material made primarily from recycled plastic bottles, typically polyethylene terephthalate (PET). This insulation is designed to provide thermal and acoustic protection in buildings while promoting sustainability by repurposing plastic waste.

Recycled plastic insulation is made from recycled PET, which comes from plastic bottles and other plastic waste. The plastic is processed into fibres or batts, forming the insulation material.

By using recycled materials, this type of insulation helps reduce the amount of plastic waste that would otherwise end up in landfills or oceans.

Thermal Insulation

Recycled plastic insulation effectively reduces heat loss in buildings, helping to maintain a consistent indoor temperature and improve energy efficiency. By improving the thermal performance of a building, it can lead to lower heating and cooling costs.

Soundproofing Benefits

The dense structure of the insulation material also provides good sound absorption, making it an effective solution for reducing noise transmission between rooms or from external sources.

Safety and Handling

Unlike some traditional insulation materials, recycled plastic insulation is non-irritant, meaning it does not cause skin irritation or respiratory issues during installation. This makes it safer and easier to handle. The recycled plastic insulation products fitted by our partner installers are treated with fire retardants to enhance their resistance to fire, improving safety.

Durability

Recycled plastic insulation is durable and does not degrade easily over time, ensuring long-term performance. It is also resistant to moisture, reducing the risk of mould growth and maintaining its insulating properties even in humid conditions.

Installation

The material is lightweight and easy to install, often available in rolls, batts, or loose-fill forms. It can be used in various applications, including walls, roofs, floors, and lofts.

Environmental Impact

By repurposing plastic waste, recycled plastic insulation reduces the demand for new raw materials and lowers the overall environmental footprint of construction projects. At the end of its life, the insulation can often be recycled again, further contributing to a circular economy.

Applications

Recycled plastic insulation is used in a variety of construction applications, including residential and commercial buildings. It is suitable for insulating walls, roofs, floors, and lofts, providing both thermal and acoustic benefits.

Conclusion

Recycled plastic insulation offers an eco-friendly alternative to traditional insulation materials, combining sustainability with effective thermal and acoustic performance. It is safe, easy to install, and durable, making it a popular choice for environmentally conscious builders and homeowners.

SupaSoft Recycled Plastic Insulation For Lofts

SupaSoft Insulation, crafted from recycled plastic bottles, is a safe and easy to install option, making it an excellent choice for loft insulation.

SupaSoft Insulation, developed using duvet and pillow technology, offers a safe, sustainable, and cost effective solution for loft insulation. Created by the makers of ThermaFleece, this insulation utilises recycled polyester fibres from plastic bottles to deliver warmth, comfort, and long lasting performance in your home.

Insulating with SupaSoft is an effective way to achieve significant energy savings, contributing to lower heating costs. The insulation is free from harmful chemicals and binders, making it completely safe to handle. By converting plastic bottles into insulation, SupaSoft helps divert tons of waste from landfills and incineration, playing a vital role in environmental protection.

SupaSoft Insulation is versatile and can be used between and over joists or simply laid on top of existing insulation to enhance overall performance.

Benefits Of Recycled Plastic Insulation

Recycled plastic insulation offers numerous benefits, combining environmental sustainability with effective performance. Here are the key benefits of installing recycled plastic insulation:

Reduces Plastic Waste: Made from recycled plastic bottles and other plastic waste, this insulation helps divert plastic from landfills and oceans, contributing to a reduction in environmental pollution.

Promotes Recycling: By using recycled materials, it supports the circular economy and encourages further recycling efforts.

Low Carbon Footprint: The production and processing of recycled plastic insulation generally have a lower carbon footprint compared to some traditional insulation materials.

Energy Efficiency: Recycled plastic insulation provides excellent thermal performance by trapping air within its fibrous structure. This reduces heat loss in winter and heat gain in summer, leading to lower energy bills and improved energy efficiency.

Stable Indoor Temperature: Helps maintain a consistent indoor temperature, enhancing comfort and reducing the reliance on heating and cooling systems.

Noise Reduction: The dense, fibrous structure of recycled plastic insulation absorbs and dampens sound waves, effectively reducing noise transmission between rooms and from external sources. This improves acoustic comfort in buildings.

Hydrophobic Properties: The material is resistant to moisture, which helps prevent issues like mould and mildew growth. This is particularly beneficial in areas with high humidity or where condensation might be a concern.

Non-Irritant: Recycled plastic insulation is generally non-irritant, meaning it does not cause skin irritation or respiratory issues during installation, unlike some traditional insulation materials.

Fire Resistance: Many products are treated with fire retardants to enhance their resistance to fire, improving safety.

Long-Lasting: The insulation is durable and retains its insulating properties over time without degrading or settling, ensuring long-term performance.

Stable Performance: It does not compact or deteriorate easily, maintaining its effectiveness throughout its lifespan.

Various Forms: Available in rolls, batts, or loose-fill forms, it can be used in a wide range of applications, including walls, roofs, floors, and lofts.

Lightweight and Easy to Install: The material is lightweight, making it easier to handle and install. Loose-fill insulation can be blown into cavities, while batts and rolls can be easily cut and fitted.

Non-Toxic: Recycled plastic insulation is typically free from harmful chemicals and does not release volatile organic compounds (VOCs), contributing to better indoor air quality.

Affordable Option: Recycled plastic insulation is often competitively priced, offering a cost effective solution for enhancing building insulation and energy efficiency.
